Overview

Located in the heart of Portland, Texas, Pep's Mexican Steakhouse offers an inviting blend of robust flavors and warm hospitality that truly sets it apart from the typical steakhouse experience. Nestled along US-181, this spot skillfully intersects the rugged charm of Texas cuisine with authentic Mexican influences, creating a dining atmosphere that feels both lively and welcoming.

The main stage here is undoubtedly the quality of their steaks. Hand-cut in-house, each ribeye and filet mignon arrives tender and rich, enhanced by house specialties like their ribeye steak reduction sauce or a creamy garlic butter. These thoughtful finishing touches elevate each cut without overpowering the natural flavors. The Cowboy Sauce with onions and mushrooms adds a rustic, smoky depth that pairs perfectly with their finely marbled ribeye—a true celebration of Texan culinary tradition.

Beyond steaks, the menu is thoughtfully diverse. Dishes like the Texas Pasta and Beef Fajitas bring hearty, comforting flavors, while innovative appetizers such as Avocado Fries and Milano Nachos offer a playful twist on classic starters. The ribeye salad stands out as a refreshing yet substantial option, melding premium Angus ribeye with fresh avocado and house-made avocado ranch dressing. For those seeking vibrant margaritas, El Fuego Margarita adds a spicy kick that matches the spirited energy of the space.

The service at Pep’s mirrors the quality of the cuisine. Multiple guests have praised the attentive yet unobtrusive waitstaff who ensure a smooth and personalized dining journey. Owners and staff foster a friendly environment, reflecting in the genuine smiles, timely check-ins, and a vibe that embraces both locals and visitors alike. This connection is strengthened by engaging social media presence, where the owner shares humorous content that resonates with the community.

Inside, the decor blends dark wood tones and rustic elements with modern touches—cloth napkins, real plates, and metal utensils hint at an upscale casual experience. It’s a space that welcomes families, couples, and groups looking for an authentic Mexican steakhouse with personality and soul. Whether you’re digging into surf and turf enchiladas or savoring the smoky richness of their smoked meats platter, Pep’s serves up both comfort and sophistication in generous portions.

For those who appreciate a lively atmosphere paired with bold Tex-Mex flavors and well-crafted drinks, Pep’s Mexican Steakhouse is an essential destination. It stands as a testament to great food made with care, friendly service, and a community centered around shared good times and memorable meals.

Good clean environment! Service was amazing. Orange margarita was good with a hint of alcohol taste but the pink margarita was a little too sweet for my liking but still good! Sirloin nachos with mushrooms were good. Chicken spinach enchiladas were the bomb! Steak chicharrones was eh. Just taste like a lightly fried steak not the best. The ribeye quesadilla was really good though!!!

Nice inside, a lot of dark wood. My waitress was at my table within a few minutes and took my drink and food order. Cloth napkins, metal utensils, and real plates. I ordered a plate that came with beef and chicken, sausage and shrimp. I missed lunch and had not eaten since dinner yesterday so I was hungry. The salsa with the chips was pretty spicy, both the red and green sauce but I'm not very spice tolerant. I ordered their old fashioned and it was nice and strong. A manager came by checking on customers from table to table. Nice. My waitress did a good job checking back by just the right amount. My food was very delicious. My fries were super crunchy, the meats tasted smoky and very good. The beef was tender and flavorful. The presentation was also top notch. See pics. The chicken and sausage also were very good. It was so much meat I couldn't finish it all. I was impressed and will definitely be back!

Man every time we come here we have a damn good time ! From the person serving us to the bartender making the best drinks, we love this place so much. Nothing bad to say, and the owner is always posting funny stuff on social media promoting his restaurant, we enjoy viewing his videos too. Brandon was our server this last time and he was such a joy for our table, literally he was the highlight of our day besides my surf and turf enchiladas. We intend to come back to try more stuff & to request Brandon as our server, he was so outgoing, he's the definition of *be yourself* We had an overall 5 star experience, per usual. We reccomend.

Enjoying the good things in life. We had a very memorable Memorial day weekend. For starters we traveled across the pond to Portland, Texas. Looking beautiful Portland and growing. We stopped and ate at Peps Mexican Steakhouse for afternoon dinner. Happy hour 3pm-6pm. We tried the cucumber lime martinis...fabulous and refreshing with a slice of cucumber and tajin on the rim. It gets better. We ordered the sirloin nachos as an appetizer and Argentina birria tacos. The food was delicious tasting and the sides of condiments complemented the food in every bite. It was an amazing experience. The cocktails were $5 during happy hour and decided to have two more. Our server was on point and we had excellent service. We were already planning to visit again on another occasion and try other great foods on the menu. Thank you! Peps Mexican Steakhouse. See you soon!

The chips and salsa set the tone—crispy, warm, and paired with a salsa that strikes the perfect balance of heat and zest. The entrées are even better. Whether you’re into classic street tacos or a tex mex plate, were delicious. Portions are generous, pricing is fair, and everything arrives hot and fresh. Fantastic and attentive server Isabell made the experience rememberable. Quiet and quaint atmosphere. Highly recommend!
